Yesterday, I was despondent. I was less than despondent. I was miserable. Depressed.
Now, I am hopeful for next year. Positive. Looking forward.
I’ve a year to refine, to train and to get fitter.
Why?
Because today, I want for a short walk with David, the boys and Ciara and we saw this:
and this
and this
and I remembered why I love being out of doors.
I’m planning a few days with David next month and then, onwards and upwards to next May.
(Just in case you’re not sure, that’s a red squirrel (we saw two, but this was the best shot) and an osprey. Beautiful.)

That's a pity Louise.
You know you can still come along for a few days as guests? Worth thinking about? You and Dave could come along to a cheese & wine party?
Good seeing the osprey.
Not happy, but there's always next year. Maybe my walking trousers will be less snug by then?!
I did wonder about popping along to a cheese and wine, but it occured to me my mother was booked for nigh on three weeks, which was a little, er, unnecessary. We rearranged a shorter and slightly earlier time. We'll go for a wild camp the first weekend of the Challenge, but I don't know where yet. Might be in a nice little hotel I know...
Louise - do try to get to Montrose in May, you won't regret it. The Challenge is about the camaraderie as much as the actual walk, which you could do anytime, and you've already joined in the camaraderie...
"walking trousers will be less snug by then" - OMG, you're not having another one??
(2nd attempt)
Sorry to hear this, Louise. Do try to make it to Montrose, the Challenge is as much about the camaraderie as the walking, which you can do any time. And you are already participating in the camaraderie.
Must be very disappointing though...

Thanks Martin.
Not sure Montrose can be fitted in, now that I've had to rearrange the 'childminder', but some sort of trip is still in the planning.
It has just occured to me that next year, David will be up to his eyeballs studying.
I might have to purchase a single man/woman tent and go it alone. Now that really will be a Challenge!
Oh, and the snugness. Well, mine is out of sight, out of mind. I leave it all behind me, you could say...
