I’ve been weighing kit and crunching numbers and I think I’m ready to pack now. It’s looking a bit like this:

There will be food and water on top of that, but this is the best base weigh I think I’ve managed so far. There will be one or two minor changes en route. After the first two days, my pack will not weigh as much again on this crossing, as I will only have two days between civilised stops so won’t be carrying so much food again (four days of food is looking like 2622g. I will be eating this year…) When David whisks me away from Coylumbridge for a night in an hotel, I will be swapping one or two items, like the Mock Crocs for my Keen sandals, 564g and perhaps a clean top. I want to carry the Keens because at the end of last years Challenge I was so pleased to be able to wear them to finish in. I don’t think my Mock Crocs are substantial enough for that and whilst I have no intention of having sore feet, I would like the option, just in case.
So, there you have it, The Great Outdoors Challenge 2013 Kit List.
I must have forgotten something…
EDITED 17/4/13 Thanks to Fellbound who pointed out some inconsistencies, although my figures may still be incorrect! What I’m ‘wearing’ has gone up about 350g, what I’m carrying appears to have gone down…
Look out - the Kit List Police will be arriving any minute.........
ReplyDeleteI know, but it had to be done!
ReplyDeleteWell done louise. Organised.
ReplyDeleteI do try my best :-)
DeleteAn spare spork. You can never have too many sporks ;)
ReplyDeleteTrue :-D
DeleteWe love lists, we do.
ReplyDeleteI am going to do a forensic comparison with my own Challenge kit list later to work out how you are 2 kg lighter than me. My Akto adds 0.5kg but can't for the life of me see where the other differences are.
David
Could be my maths!! Always was a bit on the creative side...
ReplyDeleteGood luck and at least you will be warm with that kit.
ReplyDeleteThanks Martin. I'd like to be warm, but I rarely am. If I could carry another top I would, but have to draw the line somewhere! Ofcourse, it will be a dry, pleasantly warm crossing this year!!
ReplyDeleteGood luck.
Hello again Louise
ReplyDeleteI have spent the last 3 days doing that forensic comparison of your list and mine
I needed to know how to save weight. The big differences in your favour are tent (540g), sleep system (160g), sac (260g), cooking and fuel (200g), dry bags and packliner (210g). Whereas I save on headwear (50g), gaiters (170g), and first aid (80g). Also I will not be wearing a bra saving another few grammes. I will, however, not be eating with my fingers, unlike your good self.
Finally, you appear to have walking poles made out of gossamer as they are 507g lighter than my alloy pacer poles!
If you think I am a bit odd doing this you will not be alone :)
See, I did say my maths was dodgy! You found the poles mistake that I'd missed, I think a figure for something else has got in there. Black Diamond Alpine cf 515g. I'll edit! But their not in my pack...
ReplyDeleteI am carrying cutlery, Jetboil extending handle spoon and fork. The weight is included (but I forgot to point out their presence) witg my Flash. They live in a stretchy loop on the side so in my fluffy brain became part of one and the same. Sorry!
The thing about kit lists I find is to be obsessive about your own but not others. Everyone will carry what suits them, what they like. Mens gear also tends to weigh a bit more because it may be bigger in general and there will be other differences. I also strive to carry a lighter pack as I am a feak and weeble girly, you are a big strong man and can carry a couple of kilo more luxuries!
I'll make my corrections...
Wrong their/there/they're!!!! Shock horror!
ReplyDeleteIt's early and tricky with fat fingers on my mobile :-(
